Dr Acharya studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge (UK) and graduated with a Master’s degree in Medicine. He completed his clinical training at the Imperial College School of Medicine (London, UK) and completed his specialist ENT training in 2012, graduating from the West Midlands Deanery Higher Surgical ENT Training Program (UK). He was awarded the competitively appointed TWJ Fellowship in Otology in 2012 and spent two years undertaking training in advanced ear surgery.
Dr Acharya is accredited in Otolaryngology with both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is currently appointed as Consultant ENT Surgeon at two tertiary referral teaching hospitals in Perth, Western Australia and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia.
In addition to delivering clinical services Dr Acharya:
Has an active interest in Teaching – he is actively involved in teaching medical students and ENT doctors in training and is a regular invited speaker at teaching events for GPs and Emergency Department doctors. He is a University Senior Lecturer and an invited University Examiner.
Maintains a continued commitment to Clinical Research – Dr Acharya’s work has been presented at over 30 National or International meetings, he has published over 20 journal articles, and he was written 3 chapters in major ENT textbooks.
Provides Outreach ENT services to rural and remote parts of WA – as well as providing services in the Kimberley and the Pilbara Dr Acharya is the lead clinician and coordinator of the Telethon Speech & Hearing Pilbara Earbus Program.
Has an interest in Management – Dr Acharya has completed a Master’s Degree in Management from Durham University Business School (UK), graduating with Merit, and is involved in work aimed at improving efficiency in the WA Health Service.
